Thanksgiving Serving!

This year we (Beacon) are helping the El Modena Community Center with their Thanksgiving dinner. They have asked the church to put together some gift baskets to raffle off at the dinner on Tuesday. The serve team at the Beacon has asked that the life groups collect items and make one basket per life group.

Here is where you come in, if you are able to bring an item(s) to donate to a basket, gift card, lotions, movies, etc… and bring it with you on Wednesday evening to youth group we can put together a basket!!

Are not able to bring anything you can still help! You can also donate any new or gently used clothing for the clothing drive we will have at the dinner as well.

There’s more!!! Donate your time; you can help with set-up on Saturday, November 20 anytime from 9am – 3pm at the El Modena Community Center. Also, on Tuesday, November 22 you can help serve dinner and hand out clothing at the Center from 5:30 – 8 p.m.

We are having a competition this week. When you get to youth group you are going to be put on a team with Kristin or I. The competition is going to be on how crazy can you dress up your youth leader? You are encouraged to bring crazy clothes, food, make up, and anything you can think of. This summer we have been getting you messy, now it’s your chance to get us! Bring it!

Summer Fun

So this summer has been one crazy ride for Kristin and I. However its been fun hanging out with all of you on wednesday nights! Prayer Request: My grandpa had a heartattack on Friday Aug. 6th. Sat. afternoon he was doing better, but then we find out later that he has nemonia. (sorry about spelling) Your prayers would be greatly appreciated!

VBS!

VBS is starting next week and we want you to help!

Hopefully you all remember me and Jon discussing VBS with you a couple of weeks ago but in case you forgot here is all the info.

This year VBS is going to run a little differently, it will be once a week for 5 weeks.

There will be a VBS on Monday and aonther one on Tuesday.

Monday Nights
Dates: July 26, Aug. 2,9,16,23
Location: Kings Home (around the corner from youth group house)
Time: 6- 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday Nights
Dates: July 27, Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24
Location: Somboonsiri's (near ElMo)
Time: 6 - 8:30 p.m.

There will also be a family bbq on August 28 for all the VBS kids and their families.

If you are interested in helping out please let me know and I will send you the exact addresses. Even if you can not make all the nights please consider helping at the ones you can.

Beacon Youth!

Can you guys please put Anthony and Heather Weden in your prayers right now, because they are going through a lot right now. Please pray for Anthony in that he has massive headache and some trouble with his eye which is putting him on bed rest. And we all know that Anthony is not the type of person that like to lie around. Please pray that he gets better soon And please pray for Heather and her baby's health. The doctors found a couple of small things in some test and please keep them both in your prayers! WE love them both!

Mission Trip

So all this talk about mission and camp trip has made me think about my first mission trip! So this was me when I was 13 years old at Florida for two weeks for boot camp then off to Honduras for a month! The reason why I got the sign that said "I live like a Pig" was because my team didn't clean up so well and we had to wear that sign for the whole day! Fun times, one of the best things that came out of that trip was friendships that I made. On my team there was about 20 youths from different cities around the states and one person that lived in California, who to this day is still a great friend of mine.

FYI...This week for youth group please bring a jacket!

i know the roller skating thing is coming up soon. does anyone know of where i can find it on the main beacon site, have a flier, or know all the details like time etc.? i have had someone ask me for a flier already, and i would be okay with making my own just to give to her... but i need all the specifics first haha. thanks :)

Challenge

The second challenge is.... wait for it..... as soon as you walk in the door you need to sing the song I am a little tea pot. If you don't know what it is, Google it, its not hard. If one person completes the challenge, then you will win the prize, if more than one person completes the challenge then we will but your name in a hat and pick one name to win.

mackenzie moore... is freaking out

a month ago i had to turn in a huge project. my teacher has just started grading our class's. today she started having this psychotic rant about people using information and not citing it correctly and how she's had to give NINE referrals in the past week for plagiarism. and these are not like bad students or something... these are all super smart ap people who never would have been in trouble for anything else in school. so i was thinking it was accidental on their part?

then i realized that something in the project i turned in is not cited correctly. she only grades 1 of our 26 words, but i'm still freaking out because it wasn't just one time... it was a few times. i did all the work and cited it but it's not cited right and she WILL spaz over it. please just pray for peace because i am spazzing... and pray that my psycho teacher won't just happen to pick one of those words and give me a referral + a zero on the assignment even though i spent so many months on it :(

Will was baptized today and it was really cool to see a lot of us there to support him. Super proud of him in making this commitment and excited for him!

sorry that there's now two mackenzie's following this blog... LOL. i have two google accounts and i forgot which one i was using for here. 

anyways, three quick things.

1. my friend dianne has a shirt with a banana beating up a monkey. okay, maybe the violence between the banana and monkey is just IMPLIED. but it was still funny since jessica and i were amused and she had no idea what was going on.

2. i hate how february is such a slacker and doesn't even bother to finish off the three last days of any NORMAL month. it is throwing me off. "math test on 3/2/10" should be farther away!

3. when i try to tell stories about us bowling with our off hand at three in the morning... i start talking/laughing so loud and then going off into other tangents and otherwise being a spaz that my face physically hurt after lunch last week.

that is all.

road trip

life is a road trip that god made for us, but we dont know where we are going, so we are only for the ride. There are some bumps in the road, meet new people, and lose some =/... But god wants us to move on because there is something in our future that will make up for it =)

Wow, what a night!

Wow, what a night! I don't know where to start in talking about the all nighter. We had 11 youth took the challenge on staying up all night with out sleeping. We had a lot of fun playing a video games, photo scavenger hunt, bowling, and then a little Denny's for some early breakfast! I ended up sleeping all day and I can't really find the right words to tell you how the event went so I will let you see for you self.

Tonight, nothing big going on just still planning for the fun all nighter! Oh big thanks to the girls that took Kristin to see the movie last week, she really had a fun time! And I am so sorry that I couldn't make it, I had to ... well yea thanks again she loved it! So what was your guys favorite super bowl commercial? Well I keep telling all of you to post a picture about something funny and I thought I should do what I ask for others to do. Well the first one is not really funny but when I was going through my pictures I past my wedding photos and thought to at least post one. She is the coolest person!

Another memorable night at youth group!

Last night was memorable for many different reasons. There was an epic game of pictionary that took place and some amazing discussion about the message this past Sunday but the part that stuck out the most was deciding on a mission trip this summer. Going into last night I was not sure what to expect I had about 11 different options to pick from and wasn’t sure where to go. So, we decided to have the youth help us. After discussing all the trips and who they would be working with at each location we asked the Youth to take 5 minutes to pray about where to go and not to talk to anyone else. When we gathered after the 5 minutes we had everyone close their eyes and raise their hand when the trip they felt they were called to was announced. One after one I named the trips with no hands, I was getting closer to the last few trips and then all of a sudden almost every hand was raised. I truly felt God at work last night as I as well was called to that same location. I am so excited to see what God has in store for us!!!!

This is a place where we can post pictures of fun things that happen in Youth Group or about life and give positive comments to each other. Kristin or I will post something at least once a week, however we would like to see the youth group post about whats going on in your life as well.

Beacon Youth Group All Nighter!!!!


When: Sunday, February 14 at 5pm to Monday, February 15 with pick up at 7am to 9 am (please let us know if transportation to and from is an issue)

Where: The Abbas’
1855 E. Rose Ave. Apt. 4B, Orange, CA 92687
-Off Tustin Ave. between Collins and Walnut across the street from McDonalds


Activities: Games, Photo Scavenger Hunt, Movies, Bowling and breakfast at Denny’s

- The Photo Scavenger Hunt starts at 6pm, which means you, need to be at the Abbas’ house before that starts to be involved with the game.
- If you can’t then please meet us a 9pm at the Abbas’ place for the rest of the night

Bowling-


Cost: $20 for bowling and denny’s (dinner will be provided)


What to bring: any games, movies, drinks and snacks you want (no energy drinks sorry). Pillow, sleeping bag and any other overnight things you will need.
